We’re pleased to share construction updates on the ongoing water quality improvement project in the Oxford Crossing Community. This Submerged Gravel Stormwater Management System (SGSMS) project replaces the existing stormwater management facility. An SGSMS improves water quality by capturing, managing, and treating stormwater runoff. Below are key details about our progress and what to expect next.
What’s Happening On-Site
Construction has been progressing steadily despite a few challenges in recent weeks.
An unidentified utility conflict encountered during excavation in late February has now been successfully resolved. Utility conflicts like this are common in areas with older infrastructure, and our team worked closely with the utility owner to clear the way for construction to resume.
Earlier in April, crews successfully excavated about 25% of the wetland basin, completed the rebar formwork for the riser walls, and began installing the PVC liner, —essential steps in preparing the basin for full function.
However, this month, a water main break in the neighboring Leisure World community caused water to flow into our construction site. This issue was not related to GreenVest’s work, but it did pause progress for a few days. Thanks to quick action and coordination with Montgomery County, our team safely redirected the water off-site, and the situation is fully resolved.
What’s Next
In the month ahead, crews will be:
- Adjusting and inspecting the installed basin liner as needed
- Continuing with the installation of the stormwater filter media
- Pouring concrete for the riser structure
